Not a virus, it will put the system in a condition where you can do things with it, and then get the programmes to clear the virus

Have you run the system restore, look for yesterday and a system checkpoint

Still restoring...

Are you saying that someone else can control my computer? Like I've been hacked?

They can, but I don't see that here, I'm hoping system restore will put things back to earlier then we can look at it when you have an XP CD

I've been sitting around thinking how rediculous this business of not including the XP cd is, decided to look around the Dell website.

I believe I've found a utilitity that would let me create a backup CD for my OS.

Check this out:

tell me if you think this will work for us.

My reservation is that you will restore what you presently have, so I would check with Dell that their recovery utility has got access to all the files it needs to create the disc

The very likely thing is that it will register somewhere that you have made the CD, and if it is unsuccessful then you do not get another go at it

I realize that, I only get one try it says.

I just got done chatting with dell, he said that my computer has stored a "fresh" copy of XP, so the disk I burn should have a working Windows Explorer on it.

He also sent a disk by mail, so I should have that by saturday.

With the Dell disc, I was just concerned you would use the one go to create a disc which wasn't any good

Good news about Dell

See what the disc does in relation to sfc /scannow when it arrives

I just got done chatting with dell again, apparently I cannot access that utility without a Start button.

So I'm waiting for the disk to arrive in the mail, or for my step-dad to bring one home from work.
