the samsung has a 4ms response time but the resolution of the 24 inch dell is 1920x1200 [bleep]!!! so is a response time of 12ms good enough?

Id say its your call, You wouldnt use the resolution that high all the time anyway.

Even with a fast video card game resolutions at 1920x1200 will look choppy to most gamers but not to all.

Hard decision. The 4ms response time is hard to beat and the image will look more crisp on the samsung.

And the higher res is over a large screen size so it wont visually be a huge difference, and like JRM said most cards would have trouble at that res so you would fine yourself running it at a lower res or the games at lower settings. And 19" is plenty big for games.

that is a really good point that you brought up. So will my x1900xt be a little choppy while playing either FEAR, Battlefield 2 or Halflife 2 on 1920x1200 res? I guess this question would answer whether the 24 dell or 19 samsung. Thx

Well it wouldnt be choppy probably, but neither would it run at its best, when you read benchmarks they only go as high as 1600x1200 and even at that res at max settings theres nothing that will give you incredibly high FPS at FEAR for example. You might not be able to run at full settings either, maybe look into a half way house a 1600x1200 20-22" monitor not to big but not to small, there is such a thing as to big as at a certain point you would have to sit further away to see it properly.

i think the 19" lcd will be bigger than you think. i would go with that, my 8ms is fast, but i wouldnt go any slower. really, a big monitor like 24in is overrated. and i havent been impressed with dell lcd's i use at work. i love my samsung. in my opinion the best lcd's.

and this one is really great also because it comes with a dvi cable, has s-video and composite inputs, (so you can plug in a dvd player or video game console), and just as good as all the other samsungs with stuff like high contrast ratios (really nice, the samsung monitors will never get dim because you can keep turning em higher!!!, i have mine set to 50% and it is still very bright and has much contrast!).

Samsung LCDs are good not always the best in there range but always the cheapest as they are supply all the other companies with the large low timing panels, viewsonic usually gives slightly better monitors but the primary differences are often more asthetics and ergonomics than anyone else.

The samsungs or maybe Viewsonic VX2025 20" Widescreen LCD Monitor its almost identical to the widescreen samsung except its got slightly higher contrast. The viewsonic has slightly better soft features eg auto tuning etc which the samsungs are only good at the viewsonics usually get excellent ratings and samsung monitors while cheap and solidly build are often a little bland styling wise and can have slightly akward stands(mines is a little wobbly feeling at firstbut its more stable than it looks fortunatley).

binary is partially correct in size comparisons while the screens are physically the same size lcds have a larger viewable area and seem large than they are because of there compact size.

The monitors dell sells to corporate users are a far cry from the montiors they aim at home users and enthusiasts those ones are pretty decent by all acounts, if youve got money you want to blow you might think of the sony montior/TVs they are usually taunted as the best image quality however they have two disadvantages slightly lower response times in some models(although this isnt ever mentioned as a problem) and the biggy COST sony is expenisve they expect you to pay for the best. That said they are good, montior buying is a tricky business you need to strike a balance and that can be hard there is alot of choice.
