Desperate! Need my computer to work...

Please, someone help me. I have a 6 year old Gateway computer running Win2000. I've been infected with the about:blank mess for sometime, and began running the steps in the "you must read this" post on the 15th. I got as far as running the viruscan (I have McAfee), when the machine froze. I rebooted, and ever since it has been acting strange. I can start it, and get to windows fine. It's opening any programs that is the problem. I can't open anything. The machine just sits there and does nothing. I really need my computer. I am a stay at home mom, and it is not only an outlet for that, but it is a source of income via mystery shopping. I get all of my shopping jobs via email, and since I can't access email, I can't get any jobs.

Please help. My husband and I are at the end of our rope, and we are going to have to buy a new computer soon if we can't get this thing fixed.
