Yahoo Messenger problem?

I use Yahoo messenger for voice chat. I usally set up a rooma nd chat rather thyan using the phone type voice chat in the IM box. My problem is that all of a sudden when the opther person is speaking, my computer locks up and the other persons voice goes into what I can best describe as a stuck record...then I have to shut down the window and log into yahoo again. Of course the same thing happens again..anyone have any ideas???
