Windows installer wont't load automatically

Whenever I install or uninstall a program I get an error message that the installer is not running. So I go to Services and, even though Windows Installer is set on automatic, I have to click on start and then go back and do the install or uninstall. Why did it start doing that? Is there another service it depends on to start automatically?

I did that install. So far, so good. Yes I have all updatesor so my computer says. Was that one of them? Thanks.
