I've tried downloading from java.com twice now and it is saying that the file cannot be found but it is also saying that my download has been completed... is there another site I can trust to download a java program from???

Hi joby!

Let's have you try downloading the standalone package. This is the full java package and therefore the installer won't have to connect to any sites to download the components needed for the installation. You can find the standalone installation file for Java Virtual Machine 5 Update 6 HERE.
