Hey guys!

I am in a situation. My friend has a wireless router. He has a desktop which connects via wireless card. he created a WEP key and everything was working fine until... he lost his key! He restarted Windows and now he needs the key. He has no way of connecting the desktop to the router... so now he can't get on the Internet! We tried the reset button to no avail. Is there some way he can find the key out?

Have you tried using a Hard Cable from the desktop to the router, resetting the router, then changing the settings that way?

Hello,

His desktop, I am over at his house, is upstairs. His router is on the middle floor. So, that idea can't work. Thanks anyway! Continue to help please!

Try resetting the router, connecting again to the router, type in the routers IP Address (will be in a manual) commonly 192.168.0.1 (User and pass can be found in router manual) change settings, change WEP key. I advise doing the wepkey something you would think of straight away, like your phone number recurring or something.

Please tell me what happens. - Just a quick one. If you are at his house, HOW ARE YOU ONLINE?

Hey!

I'm at my house, I am on the phone, by the way he says hi! Anyway, he told me when he tries to connect to the router gets an error about getting "some error message saying that I need to put my passphrase or key" as he puts it. Help please.

Ok, ask him what the router is called. I'll find an online manual or something. There is always a hidden "Master Reset" buttons on wireless routers.

- Hi to him too.

Tell him...:

Pick up the router, look for a reset button:

Once he has reset there should be no wep key or passkey, so u can connect directly to the router without one:

After connecting type in the browser: 192.168.1.1
You will be prompted for a username and password:
Username is left blank
Password is : admin (rememer they are all lower case)

From there he should just reset up the router.

I'm going now, If theres no luck, PM or Email me and I'll get back to u ASAP.
