hey guys i was just wondering ive had this problem for a couple of days now where my mouse randomly freezes every once in awhile and it really is ticking me off i mean ive checked the batteries and ive put new ones in but i just dont understand why it freezes if possible could someone help me solve this problem?

What did the diagnostic actually state, or was it just a 'ok or normal' response?

Have you gone to Logitech support? Here is a link about mouse issues, and one at the bottom also addresses random freeze ups.

Where is the mouse received plugged into the compute, ie USB rear or USB front, the PS2 port in rear, is the mouse rechargable or do you have to replace the batteries regularly. Are the sending/receiving sensors clean and visible to each other? How close is the mouse to the receiver?

Can't tell at this point if it is a resources conflict, while it acts somewhat like that, not really sure right now. CHeck the above link to Logitech or tell me if you have been there. Do you have another computer to try the mouse on? They do fail, and sometimes they are defective from the start. Any keyboard problems?

okay to answer your first question the diagnostic isnt one that says whether the computers okay or not. secondly the reciever is plugged into one of the rear usb slots and it is rechargable. the sending/recieving sensors are clean and the reciever is not more than 30cms away from the mouse. okay ive gone to the support link and done everything but the mouse still freezes. okay ive plugged a usb mouse into one of the ports and its been working without problems for days so the wireless mouse is definately the problem also when the mouse freezes its frozen for no more then 5 minutes but the computer still works and the keyboard still works. also another thing i cant understand is why its suddenly freezing i mean ive had this computer for 6 weeks now and nothing was wrong with it and then suddenly the mouse stops freezing i mean i dont understand

also a friend of mine told me that he had trouble with his wireless mouse a while ago and the problem was that the power management was telling the usb ports to turn off could this be the problem???

Hi Kai

USB power is always on in most all computers when the computer is on. It wouldn't go to sleep, and even if your computer did go into a pre-set power mode sleep, moving the mouse would 'wake it up'. Do you know how to access your BIOS? When the computer boots up, you see a brief quick message to hit something like DEL or F2, or ESC to access the setup? This is usually right after the beep, screen may be blank. but well before the windows XP screen appears. You can check your usb settings there, and any bios controlled power management settings. Probably not that. More than likely a defective wireless mouse

If you plug the receiver into a different usb port, any difference? Do you have two or four on the back of the computer, and perhaps two on the front? Try several of the others, their 'may' be a slight voltage fault on one of the connections. Try different ones. If no change, a different wireless mouse might be in order.

Do you have a flourescent light on, or near the mouse or receiver? Let me know what you try. Sometimes it is the smallest factor that makes the biggest difference.

I have a Logitech wireless mouse+keyboard. It worrked fine for weeks then suddenly stopped working. I checked the batteries - they were fine. Finally I realized that the metal desk I used was absorbing the wireless signal. The fix was to stand the receiver up on its narrow face to provide better reception. The strange part is why it took weeks for this problem to show up. Perhaps it has to do with the amount of RF interference it is subjected to in your environment.

This shows your usb ports are ok, if you use a usb mouse with no problems. It's either the desk, but more than likely the mouse itself. I would use the corded mouse, or find an inexpensive new cordless mouse. If anyone else has any suggestions, I am sure they will post them here. I am convinced it is 'defective' or not working within the mfg. specs, is it in warranty ? Good luck, I don't have any more suggestions other than that.

2cts worth, have you tried uninstalliing then reinstalling the mouse, I mean sometimes it's is the driver that has gone funny.

The idea,
press: windows botton with r botton
type: devmgmt.msc
righthandclick mouse entry
uninstall mouse
(top of window) hit: view
hit: scan for hardware changes
(make sure you instalation cd is in drive
that will just reinstall the driver)

Working blind here, could you tell me how the mouse is powered.
Also, power managerment would only set in if the mouse had not been moved for a set time and this does not sound like that, so once again I feel that Middie042 is right, "faulty mouse RSP" or communication problem "reinstall it, or just the driver"

Changes to Functionality in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2

If no Bluetooth transceiver is present on the system, there is no change to the system's behavior. When a Bluetooth device that is approved by the Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL) is present, Bluetooth support is enabled.

When Bluetooth support is enabled, you can find changes in Network Connections in Control Panel. In addition, a new Control Panel item called Bluetooth Devices has also been added. You will also find a Bluetooth icon in the taskbar notification area. When you click this icon, you will see a menu of Bluetooth tasks you can perform. You can also start the new Bluetooth File Transfer Wizard. To do this, click Start, point to Accessories, point to Communications, and then select Bluetooth File Transfer Wizard.

If an existing non-Microsoft Bluetooth driver is installed, upgrading to Windows XP Service Pack 2 does not cause the existing driver to be replaced. It can be replaced later, either manually or programmatically.

I see no one has posted in a few days to this thread, but here is my two cents, for what it's worth.

I've been having this same problem for years now, but I've just been living with it. I hope that my experience will help somone come to an answer besides throwing the mice in the trash.

My problems started with two older computers. I had two boxes running Asus A7V motherboards, one with an Athlon 800 and the other with an Athlon 900. I bought two Logitech wireless desktops (at different times) to use with these boxes. The model numbers of the mice are M-RP67 and M-RN68. They are both wireness USB with ball, not opitcal.

I stated having the same problems everyone else here is having: at random times the mice would freeze for no reason. Nothing I try makes the mice work any better. I cannot remember if I had the mice when I was running Windows 2000 or if I had the problems then. But I have been having the problems under Windows XP, including service packs one and two.

Well, to make a short story even longer, both computers died at the same time (the IDE controller in one, a hard drive in the other). Before I could find the problems with both computers, I decided to build a new one: an Asus A8N with an Athlon64. And guess what? The same problem. The mouse works fine for a while, but then will freeze. So that I can keep working, I have an old corded mouse plugged into the PS/2 port. When the cordless mouse freezes, I just bat it away and use the old PS/2 mouse.

I've tried using the USB to PS/2 adapters that came with the mice thinking that if they were plugged into a PS/2 port instead of a USB port that would fix the problem, but my computer won't see the mice at all using the adapter. I then assumed that it was a USB problem with the A7Vs since it was happening on both computers (My A7Vs are USB 1.1, no USB 2 supported).

Now that it is happening on my new computer, I am starting to suspect the mice. But note the similarities: All have been Asus motherboards running AMD Athlon processors using Windows XP operating system (even though I have an Athlon64 now, I'm still running Windows XP SP2). Coincidence? I'm not so sure. I've searched for solutions before finding this forum, including going through the Logitech forum. It seems that people have been having this problem since 2003. And it seems that most people have been using Athlons plugged into Asus boards. It could just be that there are a lot of Asus/Athlon combos in existance, or maybe there is a common thread that is causing the problem.

None of the usual bonehead tech questions apply: I've tried without the Logitech drivers, then when the problem erupted I installed the drivers to no avail. I'm using the lastest drivers, the sensor is in clear view of the mouse, the batteries aren't dead, etc., etc.

I have friends with Logitech wireless mice (newer , optical ones) using Pentium 4s and they don't seem to be having the same problems.

I know this is a lot to read, but maybe an answer can be found from this. If anybody needs more information from me please ask. If an answer isn't found soon, I may just have to get a Microsoft (?!) mouse. The one thing I haven't done is use my friend's mice. I will try to talk them into using my old junk for a while so I could use theirs to see if it is still a problem. This may take a while: sometimes my mouse will work for days without failing.
