I have a friend that has a Compaq xp. He did dot get a xp cd with the system. Can I extract his XP keys from his computer and use My XP cd to use recover consol to reload xp using his key.

as long as you use the same kind of xp cd (i.e. Retail, O.E.M. , upgrade..whatever ....it may even need to be the same service pack as was originally installed) and his cd key you should be fine...

but on that note...depending on how OLD his compaq is...they may have a built in recovery tool... i think usually ctrl f10 or something like that during boot...it's called a destructive restore....check the compaq site for a user's manual and see if that model is listed with the recovery tools
