Hi guys,

I installed Norton Internet Security 2006 and since then, my fan has got louder. I've taken the side off the case to let more air in but it's still loud. Checked the task manager and teh cpu usage is still low so anybody any ideas what the cause of this could be ?

I installed a thing called motherboard monitor and it says my fan is running at 5447rpm - is that high ??

What fan is it ? Is it the fan on top of my CPU or the fan inside my PSU ? I'm kinda stuck !

Thanks in advance for any replies

the only way to tell what fan is spinning up is to open the case and listen...or look...see which fan is the loudest and let us know which fan it is

Thanks for your reply. I'll need to try and get down beside it - the cables don't strecth too far so I can't pull it out. I'll have a look and if I can see anything and get back to you.

Thanks again

A lot of proprietary systems (dell, gateway,HP) put clip on style fan "guards" after a while they seem to interfere with the actual fan. My old dell did that, I simply unclipped the guard and my fan noise went away.
