Leigh78 Welcome to [Geeks to Go]
Need more info on your PC
1- Type of PC [Laptop] [Desktop] [Tower]
2- PC Manufacturer & Model Number
3- What Service Pack is installed with XP
4- How old is PC & is XP an upgrade fron WIN 9X
5- How many USB Ports are on PC
6- List all USB Peripherals/devices including HUBS
7- Is PC on a Network
8- Have any Wireless devices
Have you viewed/browsed [Device Manager] to see if you have any [Problem or Unknown Devices] and also you need to Expand all USB Folders & see if you have any [Root Hubs] Listed
Usually these USB Problems are the result of not following the correct [USB Installation Process]
1- Do not have Camera Connected to PC
2- Load & Install Camera Software & USB Drivers
3- Shutdown & Restart PC to [Windows Install Program & USB Drivers]
4- Shutdown PC
5- Connect Camera Turn Camera ON
6- Start PC & let PnP find [New Hardware] on Start Up
Depending on your answers from above It just may be the fact that your USB Ports are not enabled and/or perhaps PnP is not enabled If you need help with [Device Manager] I can give you a [Step by step Process] on opening & using [Device Manager]
