hi,

I'm 16, live in austria, and i've decided to buy a new laptop, from alienware, namely the Area-51m 7700 Performance. It's got...:

Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 560J w/ HT Technology 3.6GHz 1MB Cache
1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SO-DIMM at 533MHz - 2 x 512MB
Area-51m 7700 ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON X800 with 256MB of DDR 3 memory
Intel® High-Definition Audio (24-bit, 192Khz) with 7.1 surround sound (I have no idea what soundcard to take, if anyone wants to help me there)
100GB 5400 RPM ATA100 - Seagate OR (this is my main problem) Extreme Performance - RAID 0 - Recommended - 80GB (40GB x 2) 5400 RPM ATA100?????
and then the cd drives... i have absolutely NO idea which one to take:

8X Dual Layer DVD+/-RW / 24X CD-RW Combo w/Software

24x10x24 CD-RW / 8X DVD Combo w/Software MPEG2 Decoder

whats the difference there?

The way the RAID 0 works is that, the computer writes to both of the harddrives at the sametime. By doing this, the computer can write/read information from the harddrives quicker then if using just one harddrive. What ever way you go, get the hardrive(s) with 7200 RPMs. Hope that this helps.

ah, thx. so what does the rpm mean? rotations per minute ?

uh, lol, that was actually meant to be sarcastic -.-
what does the "rotations per minute" mean in a hard drive?

oh yeah, so if you can read from both drives with raid 0, does that mean that when i click on my computer, i will see only a C drive, or will there be a C and an E drive as well (or whatever a second one would be called).

you will see one big C: (80GB)
and RPM is how many times the disk platters inside spin on their axis (like a cd spining in a drive)

ahhhhhhhhhh, and therefore means how fast stuff is read; so, if my RAM is used up, my comp will be faster if it has more RPMs, and it will boot faster and open folders faster etc. It's just faster if it uses it's HD ^^. That's right, i hope;). if it is, it helped thx. now to open a new topic in which i will need help on the cd rom drive
