hi i hope someone can help me. my scan disk and defragmenter wont run, it says windows is talking to it and it keeps stopping. my d drive is also not being recognised all of a sudden and wont run disks. im fairly useless on pcs so if you can help please do so in easy to understand way! many thanks

Boot the PC, keep tapping F8 until you get options, select safe mode, run defragmenter but remove the tick for check drive for errors, if it runs, select scan disc after that, if it runs, select maintenance wizard afterwards

i have tried this with no luck! no sceduled tasks will run in safe mode.

Did you boot to safe mode, click start, programmes, accessories, system tools to run them from there

I just ran them in safe mode on a 98SE PC
