Well hello there. My daughter's Dell finally caught a bug despite having Mcafee, spybot, spyware blaster and adaware SE. Did a bunch of reading here and it looks like she has at least Vundo going on. There's pop-ups to the antivirus Pro place, [bleep], etc. Mcafee scan is clean, as is spybot. AdawareSE is now giving the BSOD (blue screen of death).

Here's the Hijack This log. Help would be apreciated. VundoFix is loaded and ready lol.

Hello and welcome Kman609
If you have vundofix loaded and ready to go then by all means have at it,

This is likely causing the blue screen issue with Ad-aware have seen it many times,

After you have run the vundofix

Please click on the Start Menu and select Control Panel. A window should open. Now click on Add/Remove Programs.

Please remove these entries from Add/Remove Programs (if present):
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 3
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03

After you have done so, please click here and install the most recent version of Java
Reboot your computer and post back a fresh HJT log for me please
Also post back the vundofix log

Ran the vundofix. Think I screwed up though. When I tried to put a check in the "run as task" box, the program instantly came back. Never was able to check the box. I ran the program and it found a half dozen files. I let the program remove them and then rebooted. Problem is there is no vundofix.log file anywhere. I ran the program again, and it found no infected files.

Here is the new Hijack This log. Hope it helps w/o the vundofix log. Sorry for the screw up.

Could you post an uninstall list for me please, We have a couple more things to clean up
  • Start HijackThis
  • Click on the Config button
  • Click on the Misc Tools button
  • Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
  • You can click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad into this topic please,

Looks good lets just get rid of this last one

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Please go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following (if present):

MyWay Search Assistant



Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), please delete these folders (if present):

- C:\Program Files\MyWaySA


After that, Reboot Post back a fresh HJT log please.

OK, fixing R3 and O2 went fine.

Booted into safe mode fine

Found MyWay... in add/remove programs, but got error message "windows installer could not be accessed..." when I tried to remove it.

Found the folder and deleted it. It was empty save for an also-empty sub folder.

Rebooted and ran HJT

Please use the following suggestion to help prevent reinfection


Download the following program, For keeping crap off your system to begin with
Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests. Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox. Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Download Spyware Blaster

Keep AD-Aware. and Spybot 1.4 handy, Check them for updates prior to running and run them weekly
Same with your Anti Virus,

For an added check run an online virus scan, you can use one of the 2 below,
TrendMicro's HouseCall
ActiveScan

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, A handy tool to do this
Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All

Everything is running fine and no re-directs to those moronic places.

Sad thing is that we've been running current Ad aware, spybot S&D, spywareblaster and mcafee, and we still got this thing.

Does the newer Java resist this stuff better? My other daughter has an identical computer. Should I gas the java on it and put Sun's Java on?

Anyways, thank you so much for your help. I'm going to try some of the other suggestions on this site to keep a leash on my daughter's computer.

Thanks again, and would you like to help me integrate a marine radar with a GPS, chart plotter, fish finder, VHF radio and auto pilot tomorrow?
