This is my first time posting and I sure hope you can help me, as I've seen you've helped others.
About 3 weeks ago, I let my Mcaffe run out and got Norton instead. As soon as McAffe ran out I started getting many pop-ups. (I haven't had a problem with pop-ups since I bought this PC in Oct. 2004.) A friend of my husbands gave me Spybot search and destroy, thinking maybe it was a spyware/adware problem. That removed a lot of the pop-ups but they keep coming back.
It seems my PC is constantly hooked up to the Internet through Internet Explorer, I can't get it to disconect. I have DSL and it used to be that it would log onto the Internet only if I logged on.
Then I installed Norton (after about a week without any extra protection) and my Internet wouldn't work, so I took it out. I am running SBC Yahoo online protection for now. I know I need something better, but until I get this problem straightened out, I don't want to put a lot of stuff in my PC.
One of my other problems is that when I'm on the Internet, through SBC Yahoo, if I'm at a web site that has a link, if I click on that link, my PC freezes up and I have to ctrl+alt+delete to get out of it. This never has happened on this PC. I have an HP Pavillion I bought new Oct. 2004.
I hope this info helps you to understand what I'm talking about. I know how to use a PC I just don't know the lingo...
Any help is appreciated,
Thanks,
Laura
PS. I have children (11-21) who also use the Internet and they SAY they haven't downloaded anything...I know you can get viruses just from visiting some sites...

Welcome to the world of malware removal then, sounds like malware so here is the link to our malware removal forum, link below. Follow all the steps mentioned and if there is still malware after those steps post the hjt log there. Good luck then.
