First of all I tried to clean out my girlfriend's computer because it was running slow by using the system recovery cd's that came with her computer. I wanted to just put the originial programs back on the computer and take out all the other crap that was on there. The computer is an HP Pavilion zt1130 notebook and about halfway through the 2nd system recovery cd, the computer shut off. I turned the computer back on hoping to take place where I left off but now the computer will not even recognize that a cd is in the drive. Here are some of the following error messages I have received:

"Error #1824 partition not found"
"Error: Problem Encountered. Image not restored properly"
"Image Error encountered"
"X:\recover\AIBRHOIA.BA\Install"
"CDR101: Not ready reading drive X"
"Not Bootable CD-rom"
"ECHO is off"
"Image error encountered"

In BIOS I tried changing the boot divice order back to the hard disk to see if it will start up but it says "missing operation system"

This computer does not have a floppy drive and will not boot up with the cd. I'm walking in unfamiliar territory now and need to know step-by-step directions on how I would go about getting this computer up and running again.

If any of you can help me out while I have this other laptop hooked up nearby I would greatly appreciate it..... THANKS!

If you are really lucky

Start the System Restore tool at a command prompt

1. Restart your computer, and keep tapping F8 during the initial start-up until you get options, select Safe Mode with a command prompt then press enter.

2. Log on to your computer with an administrator account or with an account that has administrator credentials.

3. Type the following command at a command prompt, and then press ENTER:

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

4. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to restore your computer to an earlier state.

Look for the most recent system checkpoint created before the errors to restore from

For additional information about the Safe mode with a command prompt, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

If you are not, set the PC to boot from the CD ROM and see if it will recognise disc one of the recovery set
