the installation i tried to boot in using boot disk i got while installing.Then it asked me for login and i entered as root and entered the password.I got a prompt as

when i entered startx to get into my destop it showed up as something like this

when i typed /etc/inittab
it showed as
denied permission.
when i pressed ctrl-alt-f7 a blank screen showed up and nothing happened
i just dont understand whats goinon here .please help me find my desktop.
