Hello again everyone. It's been a long time since you all remedied the problems on my machine(s). I am now attempting to fix a co-workers laptop. The machine boots up, loads XP, acts normal for about 30 seconds and then totally freezes. I have run Cleanup, AdAware (which also freezes), SpyBot, Ewido and CC Cleaner all in safe mode. I cannot get around this issue no matter what I do.

AdAware locks up at a photo program (Jasc?) loaded on the machine. Ewido found and cleaned 144 problems, Spybot cleans everything except Huntbar. I can't connect to the internet. I burned everything to CD to run it. I also de-fragged before doing anything.

I ran HJT from CD and created a logfile but I can't burn it back to a disc for some reason. There are multiple entries in the host file for "zestyfind.com", as well as "r.com", "zer.com", "imizer.com", "www. zestyfin", "ookup.com", "m" (2 entries), 4 unnamed BHO's, "Viewpoint Toolbar", "stopzilla.com" .....too many to list all.

I am truly at wits end having spent over 7 hours trying to ressurect this #^@! thing.

I now ask for the help of the guru's. I am not worthy. :whistling:

Hello!

My name is Justin, and I will be helping you clean your system. I am sorry for the delay in our response to your topic, we try to help everyone, but at time topics slip through the cracks.

Is there any way that you can save the HiJackThis log onto a floppy drive, or a flash/jump drive?

Before I can tell you what to fix in HiJackThis, I need to see the log.

If you cannot get the log off of the computer, we will look at some other methods. :whistling:

Hello Justin and thank you for your response. I will attempt to get the HJT log to a disc and then to this venue.

Are you able to tell me what part of the world you are responding from? I just want to get a sense of any time difference we may have as it may affect our dialogue. Prior experience on GTG has found me receiving assistance from Denmark and Belgium.

Thank you again. I will (hopefully) post a log shortly.

Alas without a cd burner I can't get the driver for my floppy onto the laptop. I can download to a floppy....but that obviously is no help. Any thoughts? I am more than willing to manually transcribe the log if I must.

Okay...I found that if I work REALLY fast.....I can perform some tasks befor e the machine freezes. After about 10 tries I got the HJT log to CD....here it is :whistling: ***I should let you know that I ran HJT from the CD. I got a message regarding certain issues/file paths from HJT at the start of the scan....I can't get it to the c drive on the laptop. Hopefully this doesn't create a problem..?

Hello!

Please Click on Start
Click Run
Type in MSCONFIG

On the General Tab, click on the "Diagnostic Startup" Radio Button.

Boot your computer into Safemode and try to get HiJackThis to your C Drive.

If successful, please open HiJackThis and click on Open Misc Tools Section
You will see a button that says "Generate StartupList Log", next two it are two boxes that you can check Place a check next to both of them (List Minor Sections(full), List Empty Sections(Complete))

Then select Generate StartupList Log.

Post the log for me to look at, and remain in Diagnostic mode. :whistling:

Hello!

Did booting up into diagnostic mode stop the freezing?

Also, I need the startuplist log from HiJackThis, not the Scan log.

PS - I am living in Arizona.

Yes , the system does not freeze in safe mode. That's where I tried all the Malware forum fixes. I have to start dinner. I'll be back in 5 minutes. Thank you very much for your assistance.

Go ahead and let the battery charge, I have a few things I need to get done, while im looking over your startuplist log.

So you can keep it off and charging until you hear from me :whistling:

Hello!

Please open MSConfig Via Start - > Run - > MSCONFIG

Click on the Services tab, then select Enable All.

Click Apply, then Ok.

Reboot the computer and see if the computer freezes. If the computer freezes, we will have to go through each service to find out which one is casuing the problem.
