IDE identity

I would like to SOFTMOD my xbox but was a little confused about the IDE primary/slave stuff: My harddrive is an SATA harddrive, my IDE cable runs from my motherboard to a cdrom i dont use then to dvdrom i DO use. So is dvdrom primary slave? and I hook/hotswap xbox hd to the cdrom portion of IDE cable (which is primary?)? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I don't want to go into this operation completely blind. other than IDE identity i think i'm set.
