Changing system Icons

I want to change my XP system icons to some vista ones.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ShellIcons
is this the correct address?
Or shoulld I edit C:\Windows\System32\shell32.dll

Does anybody have any tips
(like 01 02 03, or dont do it)

and you got these icons, from.....?

It is a far better idea to do it the easy/intended way, rather than hacking the registry or DLLs if you can

Right Click the desktop, choose PROPERTIES, choose DESKTOP tab, choose CUSTOMIZE DESKTOP, choose your ICON, and choose CUSTOM ICON

i ask you where you got them from because I am wondering if they are ICO files, or something else

they are .ico files. I can't remember where. i'll find out. I don't think they are microsoft ones as the creator wanted credit for them. I used a program called Iconchanger but this only allows 3 changes. uninstalling this removed the icon changes. (they do work). (recycle bin (shot glass look) full/empty, My documents. IE is new look by properties right click)

Of Course :whistling: . I'm trying things the hard way. I think too hard!!! There are a few others i want to change, but i shall manage. These icons came from....

If anybody is interested I used Icon Packager to change the system icons.

this allowed me to change most icons and is easy to use.
