I am trying to format a comp with win xp installed. Every time I try I get the message you cannot format a network drive. What do I need to do to resolve this problem?

It sounds like you inside windows when trying to format, read this:

How to format your harddrive with a Windows CD

This will give you instructions on how to format windows using the XP disk outside of windows.
