My AVG keeps picking up the trojan "Dialer.bpl". I did a google search for it, but not much of anything was there about it. How do I get rid of it and eliminate any future threats?

I did a "hijackthis" scan...here are my results:

Hi shedboy and welcome to the Geeks to Go Forums.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

Missing .DLL file(s) has/have disrupted the LSP chain on your computer. This can be seen by the (010) entry(ies) in your HJT log. We must fix this problem as a priority.

1. Backup the registry by going to Start>Run> and type ‘regedit’ without the quotes. Then on the file menu choose ‘export’ in XP.

2. Download the LSPfix.txt and read the readme file.

3. Download LSPfix.zip or LSPfix.exe

4. Close all windows except LSPfix

5. Launch LSPfix.zip and install to its own folder, then click on LSPfix.exe. Or click on LSPfix.exe and it will launch the program.

6. Put a check mark in the box “I know what I am doing

7. Click ‘Finish

7. REBOOT to complete the task.

8. Now RUN HJT, click Scan and POST a new log file in this thread using “Add Reply”.

Regards,

Trevuren

Don't be sorry! If you had to ask the question, maybe I wasn't clear enough. Never proceed if you need questions answered first.

1. Please update your Ewido definitions.

2. Now run Ewido in Safe Mode and keep the log

How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode*Restart the computer.
*as soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*press Enter.

3. Now restart your computer in normal mode.

4. Please post a fresh HJT log along with your Ewido.txt log

Regards,

Trevuren

I just want to say, thanks alot for all your help and your prompt responses, much appreciated.

I just have a wee question...

I have Norton Anti Virus 2005 on my laptop and recently i have not been able to to scan anything, e.g files, folders, or been able to do a system scan. My question is, is this down to a virus, malware etc or not ?

I have uninstalled and re-installed it but still no joy.

Your log is CLEAN. To be honest with you, I don't know right now why Norton AV isn't working. In my opinion, you aren't missing very much. AVG is great and so are NOD32 and Kaspersky. AVG is free though. Just because your log is clean, it doesn't mean that your system is lilly white. Let's do one last test before going on to the final cleanup procedures.

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Virus Scanner

Next Click on Free Virus Scanner, then Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    Standard
    • Scan Options:
    Scan Archives
    Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information into your next post.
Regards

Thanks for your advice.

I will post my online virus scan once it's finished - 9% done and it's found 2 viruses already.

    C:\Documents and Settings\chris\Local Settings\Temp\win34.tmp.exe

  • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".
  • Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.
If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.
