After installing and running the stuff from the Anti-Spyware Tutorial nothing much seems to be getting through other than this troublesome item. It doesn't appear on any scan other than Trendmicro. Still, it would be nice to get rid of it.:whistling: Thanks a lot in advance of any help. Dabs

Hi daba: Welcome to GTG. Did you get this resolved? If not, please uninstall limewire. It is a P2P program that causes many problems.

Also, please rerun hijack this and post a new log in this thread along with any problems you're having.

Coachwife 6 hello

Many thanx for the prompt fix. As you suggested I have uninstalled limeware - a somewhat arduous task - and trendmicro is showing all clear now. Here is the new Hijack This Scan for your perusal. Again thanx for a really great service. I really appreciate you and it.

Download and Save Blacklight to your desktop:

Double-click blbeta.exe then accept the agreement, leave [X]scan through Windows Explorer checked, click > scan then > next

You'll see a list of all items found. There will also be a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers).

Copy and paste this log in your next reply. Don't choose the rename option yet! I want to see the log first, because legitimate items can also be present there, such as "wbemtest.exe"

Coachwife 6 hello

It was not possible to comply with your instructions. Having downloaded and clicked on blbeta.exe and accepted the agreement, there was no option onscreen for checking "scan through windows explorer". I ran the scan anyway and it said all clear. There was no desktop log.

Maybe they changed things since you used it last?

Thanks anyway

Please download Rootkit Revealer (link is at the very bottom of the page)
  • Unzip it to your desktop.
  • Open the rootkitrevealer folder and double-click rootkitrevealer.exe
  • Click the Scan button (bottom right)
  • It may take a while to scan (don't do anything while it's running)
  • When it's done, go up to File > Save. Choose to save it to your desktop.
  • Open rootkitrevealer.txt on your desktop and copy the entire contents and paste them here

Hello

We inhabit a mysterious universe. Today I posted a new topic re another Trend Micro scan result, uncleanable malware. I was informed that I hadn't answered you which really surprised since unless I accidentally deleted it I hadn't had a reply from my last answer. So in my head I just assumed that since it showed negative that you'd left it at that. I'm really surprised to find a reply. Thank you.

However the mystery continues.Today I ran a Trendmicro online scan: nothing found, despite not having done anything to get rid of the previous infection! I've just run the rootkitrevealer. I thought it had frozen up but realised my mistake. So I ran it again. The first time it was showing a result of something in the favourites. Now though, it shows no descrepancies found!

So what it all means I don't know.

I apologize for not answerng but sometimes we don't receive email notifications. 99 percent of the time we do, but this time we didn't. I need to see the entire rootkit log. Can you run it and post it here? Thanks. :whistling:

Hello

That's all there was after I had run the rootkitrevealer and saved it. Just what I put at the bottom. Maybe I did something incorrectly.

Sometimes it's best not to ask why....just accept what the machine has handed you, run and don't look back. Congrats. :whistling:
