Hi kbru1922...

From Safe Mode, Click Start, then Run, type cmd, and click "Ok". At the command prompt that appears, type chkdsk /r, and press "Enter". It will prompt you to let it run on the next boot...type Y and press "Enter".

This will be a long operation...let it finish. See if it will boot into Windows normally once it completes.

I have never seen that command start a destructive recovery, but we'll go a different route just to be on the safe side.

From Safe Mode, click Start , point to All Programs , then to Accessories , then to System Tools , and select System Restore . Restore to a date before the problem began.

I can't seem to get out of it. I tells me that if I want to retain my data exit te utility and perform a full backup of external media. I hit the cancel button and it just restarts to the same point. It will not allow me to
get out of the loop.

Shut the machine down by holding the power button in until it shuts down. Then start back up in Safe Mode and run the system restore.

Does it give you a command prompt? Do you have a disk in the cd-rom drive?
