im having trouble getting rid of this virus. i use avg. but still shows i have this virus.

I find the virus here: C: Documents and Settings\owner\local settings\temp/41.exe

i tried scanning in safe mode with system restore off, and nothing came up, my computer was clean. i rebooted in normal mode with system restore on and the same virus was found, in the same folder. C: Documents and Settings/owner/local settings/Temp/41.exe this is really starting to get frustrating.

Please save Hijack This in a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

You will see an icon representing your harddrive (most likely C: Drive) Right Click on the hard drive icon and click Properties at the
bottom of the fly out window. One the very first tab (General) you will see a button labeled "Disk Cleanup"...click that button.
Make sure the following are checked:
Downloaded Program Files
Temporary Internet Files and
Recycle Bin
Click OK and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.

Geez. The trojan horse dialer.20.AG. is gone. But now I have 7 trojan horse downloader.small.27.K. These are found in C:\Documents and Settings\owner\local settings\temp\????.exe (they all have different numbers for file names. Heres an updated hijackthis log.

Click on the Processes tab and end the following processes:

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

*press Enter.
Using Windows Explorer, locate the following folder, and delete it:
C:\Program Files\Archive\
Exit Explorer.

Now, while you are still in safe mode, do this:

With Windows Explorer, browse to the C:\documents and settings\Owner (repeat for all users)\local settings\temp folder and delete all files and folders in it.

Then browse to the C:\Windows\Temp folder and delete all files in it.

Then in internet explorer click tools>internet Options>General. Click on Delete Files make sure you get all offline content as well.

Empty recycle Bin.

Reboot as normal afterwards.

Scan using AVG again.

Also do an online virusscan using Housecall. Make sure the option Autoclean is on.

Then please download the latest version of HijackThis:
HijackThis 1.99.1.

Reboot again. Post a fresh log using this version.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

• Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

• Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.
  
  
• Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

• Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. ou should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.

• Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

• Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.
