How long have you had Alpha Zip?
It may be causing your problems and from what I've been reading it's not a good program, so let's get rid of it.

Go to this folder and double click on unregister.bat

C:\Program Files\Alpha ZIP

Then delete this folder.

C:\Program Files\Alpha ZIP

Reboot your comuter. See what happens when you right click. If still the same problem post a new log from Silent Runners.

hmm i dunno why that folder is there, i deleted it the other day (the program). maybe that's why there's no "unregister" file.

So the program is gone and we just need to get rid of the registry entries it left behind.

Let's try another registry cleaner:
  • Please dowload: RegSeeker.
  • Click on "Clean The Registry" in the left panel.
  • Check all boxes (make sure the backup box in the lower left corner is selected!).
  • After it runs, click "Select All" on the bottom, then right-click on any selected item in the window and select "Delete Selected Items".
  • Click "Quit RegSeeker".
Now, open any of your installed programs, and make sure that everything opens ok. If so, reboot, then go back and run the RegSeeker again, do the same thing again if anything is found. When RegSeeker finds nothing else, then it's clean!

Let me know how it goes.

Well, I guess we'll do it the hard way then. :whistling:

1. Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the contents of the quote box below into a new Notepad file. Save it with file name options.txt and save as file type: all files to your desktop.

RegSearch Options File

[Search]
AlphaZIP

[Options]
Filter=KVDLUI

2. Download Registry Search to your desktop.
  • Right click on the compressed RegSearch folder, and choose "Extract All". In the box that pops open, click "Next", then "Next" again, and then "Finish". You now have another RegSearch folder on your desktop.
  • Open the new folder, and double click on regsearch.exe
  • Click "Import" in the lower left corner and browse to the options.txt file that you just saved on your desktop. Do not choose the one in the RegSearch folder itself.
  • Click OK and Registry Search will scan your registry for the file(s), and a Notepad box will open with a report.
  • Please reply here with the entire contents of the Notepad file from RegSearch.

Open Notepad, and copy everything in the code box below and paste it into a new notepad file. Change the "Save As Type" to "All Files". Save it as fixme.reg on your Desktop. Make sure there is NO blank line above "REGEDIT4"!

Locate fixme.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it. When it asks if you want to merge with the registry, click YES.

Reboot your computer and check for the error.

That's what I wanted to hear! :whistling:

Chalk it up to poor programming and stay away from AlphaZip from now on. It was a right click(context menu) item that was causing a conflict with explorer. If AlphaZip's uninstall program worked the way it should and removed all of the registry entries it made, then you wouldn't have had this problem. And we wouldn't have had to perform surgery like we did. :help:

You can delete fixme.reg from your desktop now. It's done the job!
