My husband downloaded a supposed "windows update" in March. Immediately after the computer started to shut down on it's own. When you try to turn it back on it just shuts down again. I remember reading in a digest from a yahoo group that there was a virus in a so called windows update that did nasty things to a computer. Is this what has happened and is there anyway to repair without putting it in the shop? The motherboard and processor are relatively new and are still under warrenty. It ran just fine for about a month and a half and then he downloaded this thing and had to go buy a new comp the same day. The worst thing was we had automatic updates on and this was a pop up not the usual microsoft notice. Any help would be appreciated the only thing would be to get it to stay on long enough to check it out.

Hi angelikie2000...

Will the machine boot into Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key during bootup?
