you check in device manager and nothing means what? No errors, or nothing there?
If nothing is there, then it sounds like the device has failed. What about bios? Does the system bios detect it at startup or under system setup screens?

Thanks for the reply. The device manager does not list dvd or cd rom drives. In bios it shows Primary: Drive 0: Auto, Drive 1: None. Under Secondary: Drive 0: None, Drive 1: None. Under Secondary for Drive 0, the only option I am give it either Auto or None.

Yes, I even used a different cable, changed the cd drive and same problem. The cd door opens and closes. The light blinks for 2 seconds then stops. No change. I even tried to ad the cd as a new hardware and the computer could to locate it. The message reads: "The system did not find any hardware."

Is there a way I can add the cd drive manually? Is there any other option? Thank you for your help.
