I am having a major problems from some type of virus I received from Limewire. It popped up on my screen that I had been infected with some sort of virus or worm. My start menu toolbar at the bottom of windows no longer works. It doesn't even show up on my screen. It is just a blue bar. When I roll over it, my hourglass loader shows up. Somehow, my internet connection has been disabled from this also. When I run Norton it says I have thousands of viruses. I don't know what to do. I have tried just about EVERYTHING I could think of. Somebody please help me!! Thanks so much.

Hello.

1. Please download Ewido Anti-Malware
  • Install ewido anti-malware
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  • The program will now open to the main screen.
  • When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.

You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
    • Then click on Start Update.
  • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display ("Update successful")
  • Exit Ewido, do not run the scan yet!
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
ewido manual updates

2. Please download Brute Force Uninstaller to your desktop.
  • Right click the BFU folder on your desktop, and choose Extract All
  • Click "Next"
  • In the box to choose where to extract the files to,
  • Click "Browse"
  • Click on the + sign next to "My Computer"
  • Click on "Local Disk (C:) or whatever your primary drive is
  • Click "Make New Folder"
  • Type in BFU
  • Click "Next", and Uncheck the "Show Extracted Files" box and then click "Finish".
3. RIGHT-CLICK HERE and choose "Save As" (in IE it's "Save Target As") in order to download Alcra PLUS Remover.
Save it in the same folder you made earlier (c:\BFU).

Do not do anything with these yet!

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping F8 until a menu appears. Highlight Safe Mode and hit enter.

4. Once in Safe Mode, Open Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
  • Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.
Close ewido anti-malware.

5. Then, please go to Start > My Computer and navigate to the C:\BFU folder.
  • Start the Brute Force Uninstaller by doubleclicking BFU.exe
  • In the scriptline to execute field type or paste c:\bfu\alcanshorty.bfu
  • Press Execute and let it do it’s job. (You ought to see a progress bar if you did this correctly.)
  • Wait for the complete script execution box to pop up and press OK.
  • Press exit to terminate the BFU program.
Reboot into normal windows and post the contents of Ewido text report that you saved and a new HiJackThis log.

Hi, I really appreciate your response. I attached the scan report from ewido and the my new Hijackthis log. Hopefully you can help me out. I still cant use my start menu bar. I can see it now, but when I rollover it, the hourglass loader still just comes up. I also can't seem to get rid of any of the "cfg32" processes that I know are spyware.

Run Ad-Aware with the latest update.

  • Make sure everything has a check next to it, then click the Next button.

Restart computer.

You have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.downloads....org/l2mfix.exe
http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Save the logfile.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

if you receive, while running option #1, an error similar like: ''C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe,
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose close to terminate the application.."...then please use option 5 or the web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition. do not run the fix portion without fixing this first.

Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)

Please attach to a post...the session log from spysweeper, the l2mfix log and the uninstall_list.txt log...thanks...

Wow, things are SO much better now. My start menu bar is working, my internet is working(I had some type of internet hijacker?). I attached the rest of my reports you wanted. Thank you so very much for all your help. I will without a doubt make a donation tonight. You helped me out a great deal. I will be passing the word on about this site for sure.

Awesome!!! :whistling:

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter. It will process then start. Your desktop and icons will disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, it will be ready for a reboot. Press any key to reboot. After the reboot notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!
If after the reboot the log does not open double click on it in the l2mfix folder.

Then also scan with hijackthis and post that log!...

Ok. I guess I was wrong. I am still having some problems. It don't think it is anything to major. I was having some trouble removing the "cfg32" files but I think I finally did. Norton keeps finding some Adware.Director thing.
