Problem with Yahoo Messenger

I have downloaded and installed Yahoo messenger several times and it will not open once I get it installed. I double click the icon and it pops up for just a moment the closes automatically. I have tried everything that yahoo provides on its help site, I have tried deleting everything in the registry invloving Yahoo, restarting and trying again. I have tried everything I can think of based on the info I have. Anyone have any siggestions at all ? I would really like to get it working on my computer soon. Any help will be most appreciated.
