hey.. i havent been here since i had a pretty bad infection on my pc a few months ago. i just wanted to see if everything is in order and to see if my system is clean.

Their scanner is detecting the way that HJT is put together - apparently this shares some of the characteristics of some malicious files, and putting two and two together and getting... well you get the picture.
They'll be telling you next that all people on bikes in leather are Hel l's Angels!
(I had to put the space between the "l"s to get round the bad language detector - strict, ain't it!)

Try this online scan then:

Run the following scan: Kaspersky Online Scanner.
When you see "Please select a target to scan", click on "My Computer".
When the scan has completed and the results are displayed, click on the Save as text button and save the report with an appropriate name to your Desktop.
Copy and paste this report into your next reply along with a new HJT log AND a description of how your PC is running.

** Please note **
a) I.E. is required to run this scan.
b) You will need to remain online for the duration of the scan.

The following steps will serve as a spring clean for your PC. Not all of them will be of benefit to your PC as this is a general post, but the overall effect should be positive.
(I suggest you work through these before you post back how the PC is behaving.)

1) Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove any programs that you no longer use and then reboot your PC.

2) Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune from here and save it to your Desktop.
Double click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Check the boxes to the left of:Windows Temp
Current User Temp
All Users Temp
Temporary Internet Files
*Prefetch
Java Cache
The rest are optional - if you want to remove the lot, check "Select All".
Finally click Empty Selected. When you get the "Done Cleaning" message, click OK.

If you use the Firefox or Opera browsers, you can use this program as a quick way to tidy those up as well.

When you have finished, click on the Exit button in the Main menu.

For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

Please Note: This program is for Windows XP and Windows 2000 only.

* The purpose of Prefetch is to increase the speed at which you can access the programs that you use on your PC. Unfortunately, Windows doesn't differentiate between a program you use every day and one you use every blue moon, which means that it may be prefetching a lot of stuff that you rarely use, adding to your startup time.
You may find the first time you boot up after cleaning out this folder, that your PC takes longer to get into gear - the second, and subsequent, boots should be quicker.

3) Double click My Computer.
Right click the disc drive you wish to check.
Click Properties.
In the Properties dialog box, click the Tools Tab.
Under Error-checking, click the Check Now button.
In the "Check Disc Local Disk (C:)" dialog box, check both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, and then click Start.

This will look for and attempt to repair any errors that your hard drive has.

4) Go to Start > Run, enter sfc /scannow ( note the space between the "c" and "/" ) and click on OK.

This will look for and attempt to replace any corrupt system files that can be found. There are backups of some of these files on your PC and Windows will check for a copy here first. If you are prompted to insert your Windows XP disc, do so. If you don't have this disc and are asked for it, you will have to cancel at this point.

5) Defragment your hard drive. A tutorial for disc defragmentation is available here.

6) Download and run StartUp Inspector.
This program will help you to decide exactly what programs you disable from running at startup.
The Readme.txt file included has instructions on how to use it.

Description: My computer, oddly enough, is running slower than usual. The start up time for some programs is way too long and unbearable. Occasionaly the computer does not completely shut down, so i have to turn the power switch off manually. Another thing that i found strange was when i turned on my computer this morning, Spy sweeper and McAfee Security center were taken off the start up program list. I ended up starting them up manually. Could this be the work of a hacker?

Somewhere between the 9th and 13th of June, you picked up a malicious file which I had you run the Kaspersky scan to identify. You can see the entry for yourself: O20 - Winlogon Notify: winjrs32 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winjrs32.dll

1) Run HJT and click on Open the Misc Tools section.
Click on delete a file on reboot...
Copy and paste the following into the "File name:" text box and then click Open:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winjrs32.dll

When you are asked "Do you want to restart your computer now?", click OK.
* Your PC must reboot to delete the file.

2) Then run HijackThis as you did to generate a log, but this time click on 'Do a system scan only'.
Place a checkmark in the boxes to the left of the following entries, by clicking on them:

O20 - Winlogon Notify: winjrs32 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winjrs32.dll

CLOSE ALL OPEN WINDOWS AND BROWSERS - EXCEPT HJT and click on Fix checked

4) Then I want you to download a fresh copy of the Ewido installation file and try and install it again.
The fact that you have already used up the trial period shouldn't prevent you from installing the program as a stand-alone scanner but i'm willing to be told different.
If it installs OK, run a scan as per my previous post and let me have the log and also a fresh HJT log and description of how your PC is behaving now - if you have no luck with Ewido, skip that log and just let me have the rest.
