internet very slow

please help! i'm waiting 7 to 10 minuets for 1 page to download from internet. ??? think my settings may be wrong. have new to me computer. when i first got on net last week i had 59 updates that took days to download including sp2. I can follow SIMPLE directions :whistling: did the netdia. modem failed with following messages:[00524291] WAN Miniport (IP) (FAILED) and DNSServerSearchOrder = 205.188.146.145 (FAILED) .... Please help!!

Thanks for the suggestion. fixed the problem for now.. deleted EVERYTHING on the drive, reinstalled windows, took off aol and all works MUCH better !!!
