yech...ok...gonna need to think a little here...as with your current setup there is NO easy way to do this...
the way a normal broadband home setup would go would be like this
cable from the wall > modem > Ethernet cable from modem to Router > either ethernet cables from router to pc...or wireless connection from router to pc
since neither of the two pc's have ethernet connections....it's VIRTUALLY...impossible to connect them to the router...THOUGH...you do have the wirless doodad for the xp machine...so that would work...but you CANNOT configure a router via wireless...it has to be wired to the router to do this...
SOO...we've got a couple of options
#1 go out and by two ethernet cards...one for each pc (they are relatively cheap)...then you can have both computers wired to the router
#2 just buy ONE ethernet card for ONE of the pcs and use the wireless for the other one

I'm gonna buy an ethernet card, there are just adaptors for a USB port to let one of those phone line-like cables in, right? I'll get back to you once it gets here and I set it up.
I'll need to know how to set the router up on the 98, though. That still confuses me lol

well...can't really set up the router effectively till you get the ethernet card...you can get such a thing as a usb device..but if y ou're comfotable with installing hardware...the internal ones are cheaper and sometimes more reliable

should...
so this is what i would like for us to do...
turn off the pc, the router, and the modem then change the physical layout here....so that you've got
cable from the wall to the modem > modem to the router (should be etherenet cable..) > router to the pc (also etherent cable)
being that you'll need two ethernet cables..you may still need to get one..
once everything is hooked up...turn on the modem...let it come all the way up (let it sit for like 5 minutes to be sure it's all the way on) now turn on the router (another 5 minutes to be sure) then turn on the pc...
now...see if you can connect to the internet on your computer (you should be able to as the steps above should allow for all the devices to autoconfigure)...if you can...we're on our way to being perfect...there's mroe steps..but let's do these first and see where we can get to
