Hi, i built a pc 18 months ago and stupidly installed the intel heatsink fan that came with the processor (my first built pc), the intel heatsink fan is very loud and doesn't help with my clear acrylic case. Now i brought a swiftech heatsink but i can't seem to open the intel heatsink fan, its seems to be impossible.

Is there any possible methods or tricks i should use to open the heatsink? It is a LGA775 processor. A Asus P5GD2 deluxe motherboard. Please help!

Does the heatsink look like this one?

If so you can turn the 4 knobs 1/4 turn and should be able to pull the heatsink off the motherboard. Use a LITTLE bit of force if necessary but it should come off pretty easy.

Reeread your question and i think you want to use the intel fan on the other heatsink. The intel fan is a integeral part of the heatsink so you will have to buy a fan for the swifttech heatsink. I would recommend the vantec stealth or thermoflow.
