My computer is popping up with an error message saying this:

Desktop
Could not load or run 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\bkicbs\csrss.exe' specified in the registry. Make sure the file exists on your computer or remove the reference to it in the registry.

This error message pops up as a logon to Windows XP Home Edition.

Could someone please help me with this computer issue?

.A.S.A.P.

Thanks ahead of time,

Michael

Hi hayabusa_mike...

The file giving you grief is listed in the wrong directory and could very well be a virus. csrss.exe should be located only in the C:\Windows\System32 directory.

Please go to the Malware Forum and follow the instructions.

That will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself...then post a hijackthis log in THAT forum. Be patient, the Malware Forum is a very busy place and a two or three day wait is not unusual. DO NOT REPLY TO OR BUMP YOUR OWN LOG. If it shows a reply it may be overlooked as one that is being worked on.

If you are still having problems after getting a clean bill of health from the malware expert, please return to this thread.

I've done the Hijack This log thing before, I posted before yesterday. This is just an annoying popup now, becuase I think I may have deleted it or something, when I was using Dr. Web-cureit, etc. Well, please reply again.

Have you done as Cretemonster suggested in your topic in Malware? You should let him help you clean the machine out...I'll bet he'll nail that pop-up, too. :whistling:

Finish up with Cretemonster...if you are still having problems after that, I'll be glad to help. I looked at the last HJT log in Malware...it's not pretty. :whistling:
