This morning, I received an email on my work laptop computer from someone that I have dealt with in the past. In their note, it contained an attachment that, at a glance, looked like an email. I clicked it and the result was something odd that I didn't expect (like hitting reply to an email and something else that I don't remember).

After looking at it closer, the fake email has a .oft extension. I don't know what that means.

Since then, some Symantic software on my computer keeps popping up scan results saying my computer is infected but it can't quarantine something called "Adware.BetterInternet". The file name seems to change each time it pops up. The latest is 4490596E.qsp and it says it's in C:\windows\temp but I don't see it there.

A year or so ago, I had a problem with Aurora and remembered the help that I got on this forum (thank you). I also still had that HiJackThis program on my computer. Here is the log:

Due to this being a work computer, and I have no idea what all is on here, I can't seem to enter "safe mode", so anything done will have to be in the normal mode.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi Allen_396

Please download Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to your desktop.
  • Close all windows before continuing.
  • Double-click Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to run it.
  • Put a check next to Run this program as a task.
  • You will receive a message saying Look2Me-Destroyer will close and re-open in approximately 1 minute. Click OK
  • When Look2Me-Destroyer re-opens, click the Scan for L2M button, your desktop icons will disappear, this is normal.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove L2M button.
  • You will receive a Done Scanning message, click OK.
  • When completed, you will receive this message: Done removing infected files! Look2Me-Destroyer will now shutdown your computer, click OK.
  • Your computer will then shutdown.
  • Turn your computer back on.
  • Please post the contents of Look2Me-Destroyer.txt (it can be found wherever you saved Look2Me-Destroyer.exe) and a new HiJackThis log.
If Look2Me-Destroyer does not reopen automatically, reboot and try again.

Thank you. I followed the instructions.

While the scan was running, that Symantec thing popped up again saying it quarantined something else. That interupted the F-secure scan so I restarted it.

Here is the log:

Download WinPFind to your C Drive.
http://www.bleepingc...es/winpfind.php

Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"

Don't use it yet

Reboot into SAFE MODE(Tap F8 when restarting)
Here is a link on how to boot into Safe Mode:
http://service1.syma...src=sec_doc_nam

From the WinPFind folder-> Doubleclick WinPFind.exe and Click "Start Scan"

It will scan the entire System, so please be patient

Once you see "Scan Complete"-> a log (WinPFind.txt) will be automatically generated in the WinPFind folder

Restart Normal and have the PC Scanned here:
Panda Active Scan

You will need to be using Internet Explorer for the Scan to work

Save the Report it generates

Post back with the reports from WinPFind and Panda

Hi! "SAFE MODE" is not an option for me. This is an employer owned machine, and the computer police have safe mode locked out with their own password. Is that a problem?
