I have a Dell Inspiron 1150 laptop with a 2.60 Ghz Celeron and 256 MB of ram. I've had it about a year and a half with no problems until recently. Heres the problem: since about 3 months ago, it just freezes up randomly and I have to manually shut it down. This is a big problem because I use it to DJ, and I've had it freeze up numerous times at a job, twice in the middle of playing a song! I use iTunes to play the songs and no other programs open when it froze. i'm not noticing any patterns, i'll just be scrolling around or have a song playing and it will completely freeze. one thing i noticed is that the laptop gets very hot, not sure if that has anything to do with it. Sometimes a blue screen just appears, most of the time it just freezes without a blue screen, just a frozen mouse pointer and desktop, unresponsive. if it gives me the blue screen, i get the microsoft "send/don't send" message, and I've copied this from those messages:

I notice they all have "Product : 768_1" does that mean anything? I've uninstalled a lot of programs, done all the windows updates, virus scan, spyware scan, defrag, and this is still happening. One more thing, around the same time this started happening, i got a Seagate external harddrive, usb 2.0 that I use occasionally. the laptop has froze while it was attached and when it wasn't attached. not sure if that is relevant.

If i get a blue screen, it always says: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Please help if you can, it would be greatly appreciated! I'm hoping I don't have to reformat cause I have so much stuff on the hard drive.

thank you.

kevin

Your 1150 is notorious for the fan going bad overheating issues.A good cleaning may be in order or fan replacement.
