Hithere 1pur, and welcome to Geeks to Go! :whistling:

do you have a firewall of any type? if so please try setting it to let you accsess in internet.

also seeing as this is a new computer, is there any kind of malware protection? has this computer been on the internet before? I am not sure of the exact statistic but i belive it is something like if a unprotected computer is put on the internet for 10 minutes after those 10 minutes there is a more than 50% change it will have some kind of an infection of it. if this is the case.....Please go to the malware forum and follow the instructions at the top....Especially the CLICK HERE .
That will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself. If at the end of the process you are still having difficulty--and you may not be-- then post a hijackthis log in THAT forum.
If you are still having problems after getting a clean bill of health from the malware expert, please return to this thread.
