Windows Live Messenger 8.0.0787.00 suffering from amnesia

For some strange reason the aforementioned software will not remember various settings after exiting the program. (Will not remember my display picture, colours, background or personal message)

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling numerous times, but no luck.

Any ideas?

uninstall. reboot. go here and download the latest version: http://get.live.com/messenger/overview

8.0.0792.00 is the current version.
