I turned on my computer tonight (running Win2000 Pro, with updates from about 2 weeks ago) and everything looked normal. Except when I try to run any program I get an error message that says "[correct_path_name]\application.exe" could not be found. I tried right-clicking on my_computer and choosing properties, and it says "Access denied". I have the Norton 2003 CD, but it didn't find anything when I booted from the CD rom and did the scan. My live update is up to date, but it hasn't signalled a virus to me.

I have tried booting in safe-mode, but I still can't run any programs (same error) and I'm not sure what do to do next. :D

I can Explore my disk, so all my information seems to be there, but I can't do anything with the machine.

Any ideas? <_<

Let us take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log back here with the results.

Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.
