Wireless connection issue

Hello, recently I recieved a laptop. It is an IBM Thinkpad =). My brother set up the whole wireless connection "thing" So that I could use the internet in my room. I cannot use the internet in my room but when I walk directly outside of it I recive some connectivity. A diagram should help. The wireless internet is in my brothers room. I seems to me that I can get a somewhat decent connection anywhere right after the slanted part of the hallway. Would the way the house is designed have an effect on my connection. Thanks for any help. Here is the diagram -
