First off, the system is brand-new and freshly-installed, and all programs are functioning properly. Second, the temperature is only 89.3 F (and I have like four fans and a 500 W power supply).

When I tried to install a game, it restarted the first time I attempted it, for absolutely no apparent reason. Next, when I was on the internet, the computer locked up, again for no apparent reason. Now, as I was playing the game I installed earlier, it locked up again for no apparent reason.

Any clue how to find out what causes lockups and restarts randomly?

Bump . . . Anyone? I'd really like to get this fixed ASAP . . . I can't figure it out at all . . .

It seems like it's overheating, but with four fans and a temp of 87-89 on average, I don't see how that's possible.

The first thing to try would be to uninstall the game and see if that sorts it out. If still no good try doing a system restore to a date previous to that game's installation. I'm assuming that this is a software conflict or corruption caused by the game installation.

For a system restore press Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore
Then click restore my computer to an earlier time and select a date/time in bold.

The other question for you is did you install the game off an original CD or use a drive emulator like Alcohol120% or DaemonTools? These emulators can cause all sorts of malarky, and if it still looks grim try to uninstall these if present.

Report back and let us know how you got on.

Didn't work. In addition, I can't use System Restore because I turned it off; someone told me that if you happen to get adware or spyware or malware or crapware, it can use System Restore to save itself. It probably doesn't matter, though, because the computer locked up several times before the game was even installed.

The other question for you is did you install the game off an original CD or use a drive emulator like Alcohol120% or DaemonTools? These emulators can cause all sorts of malarky, and if it still looks grim try to uninstall these if present.

Yep, original game CDs from the store. Still, it locked up even before I installed the game, so that can't be it. It's definitely not overheating, either, as I checked that. Here are other things I've tried now:

1. Updated all the drivers I could think of.

2. Lowered sound settings.

3. Checked all wires to make sure they were properly connected.

Nothing works . . . It just keeps locking up. Oh, and this is a fresh install of Windows XP (from the CD) as well, so that's not it either. Basically, I can't figure out what's causing the computer to lock up. It seems to be random. It happens when I play that game, it happens randomly when I surf the internet. I'm not sure, but I think graphics or video may (or may not) have been playing when most of these incidents happened, but not all of them, which doesn't really help much.

I just can't figure this out. The comptuer locks up every few hours at the moment, and it's really annoying.

might try this...

SpeedFan is a freeware program that monitors voltages, fan speeds and temperatures in computers with hardware monitor chips. SpeedFan can even access S.M.A.R.T. info for those hard disks that support this feature and show hard disk temperatures too, if supported.

http://www.download....4-10067444.html

if that does not show any problems...you can do this...

Automatically log when and why shutdowns have occurred.
Love it or hate it, Windows XP is undeniably more stable than its predecessors. But it still crashes, and it still has occasional trouble shutting down. This registry hack logs all shutdown errors, telling you when, where, and why strange and annoying things have happened.
To start Regedit.exe

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2.Type Regedit, and then click OK.

Here's how to set up logging for unexpected system shutdowns:
1. Open RegEdit and browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Reliability
2. Set the ShutDownReasonUI data value to 1. (If this string doesn't exist, create it and set the value to 1.)
3. Exit RegEdit and reboot your PC.
To examine the log you've created, open up the Event Viewer, which you'll find by selecting Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer. Click on the System subheading and you'll see a massive list of system events. Errors will be marked with a red X or a yellow exclamation mark. Double-click on the error and you'll see details that may help us unravel the mystery.

Done and done, and it doesn't help.

I don't know how to tell in SpeedFan if there are any problems, and my computer just locked up again and there is no record of it in the log.

This is getting annoying. It is truly random! This time it locked up while it was pretty idle (only a chat window was open), and I was in the bathroom.

I hope this can be fixed . . . I don't have any more money for hardware.

Well, I wasn't sure what you wanted me to do with that program (it's confusing to me), so I just clicked on Report and got a report on everything. Here it is:
