I'm in the market for buying more RAM for my computer to reduce slowness. I currently have 1 GB of DDR2 RAM so if I were to buy more DDR2 RAM, would it's brand name have to be the same as my current RAM?

that only depends on if you are running in dual channel mode.

if so it is better to have the same brand with the same speed and the same size

i am guessing that the 1 Gig that you have is 2 512 sticks? this being the case buy another two sticks of 512 by the same company and make sure they are the same speed,

Questions that we need answered:

1) How many sticks do you have in your computer now (1 gig or 2 512's)?
2) What current brand do you have (if you know)?
3) How much are you going to upgrade (another gig, two more gigs, etc.)?

The name doesn't have to be the same but the frequency and size should match.

I HP guy, if you could provide us with your computer model, I would be happy to research this for you.
