My system has been taking forever to bootup lately. Can you help.
I have run Ad-Aware SE Spybot S&D, CWShredder. Nortons AntiVirus is uptodate as well as All windows critical updates are installed.

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

(Description: Sun Java update scheduler. Checks for updates. Not necessary. Removing this entry will free up a small amount of system resources.)

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Please delete your temporary files. Double Click My Computer (WinXP: Navigate to Start --->My Computer)
You will see an icon representing your harddrive (most likely C: Drive) Right Click on the hard drive icon and click Properties at the
bottom of the fly out window. One the very first tab (General) you will see a button labeled "Disk Cleanup"...click that button.
Make sure the following are checked:
Downloaded Program Files
Temporary Internet Files and
Recycle Bin
Click OK and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.

Post another log after rebooting.

how is it running?

It doesn't make sense to me, but it booted faster after removing the items before this last time.

I have even rebooted a couple of times to see. Even turning right off to see if that made a difference.

So, these last few times of booting, it seems to be back to taking as long as before.

Is it possible that the network connections being restored on bootup being part of the reason for taking so long. We have four Dell XP computers that are networked.

what are these tomcat and bulldog entries?

It wouldn't make a difference on booting up. Just if they were all on at the same time, it might makes things a little slower.

You can go to www.answersthatwork.com and look up each of the 04 entries listed in your hijack this log. That way you can tell whether you want it loading on start-up. You are not deleting the program--you are just using it when you need it instead of having the machine load it each time you boot it up.

The tomcat is the service that monitors the HP1300 printer.

The bulldog is the Belkin UPS shutdown software.

I will try removing the HP one and see if that makes a difference. But I think that the bulldog one would need to be running in order for the UPS to shutdown the system on power failure.

Will post back as to what this does.

That didn't seem to make much difference.

However, I did try something that did make a big difference.
I have been having a little trouble with the Belkin UPS in increasing the voltage at its output to the low 130 volts.
I switched the power source for the cpu to a different plug than on the back of the UPS and it booted up way faster.

Have you ever heard of a system booting slower when the input voltage in the the range of 130-134???

Occationally the UPS has been changing the voltage up into this range. It does have AVR (automatic voltage regulation) but it doesn't seem to be working properly.

I would contact them to have them replace this unit.
