Windows Me Locking up

Just lately my pc keeps locking up. There is no consitant pattern as far as time, software, processes, etc etc. It will even lock up when I am just looking at the screen. I know this does not matter but I am usually using Excel, when it freezes i can usually tell because the bottom tool bar disappears then everything is frozen.
Have not recently installed any new hard or software. Checked Device Mgr, Directx diag., msconfig no major problems found.
Ran Spybot, no major problems found. Cleaned it up, rebooted but it still locks up.

Am now in safe mode and it seem ok for now...or at least long enough for me to get this post out.
