I'm going to mod my xbox and put it into a pc case most preferably a small nice looking and relatively inexpensive one. Does anyone have a good suggestion? And also does anyone have any warnings? I have already taken my xbox apart and put it back together several times so should be able to easily transfer it into a case.

It would depend upon the availability so what you can get for the money you have however small cases are usually expensive, what i would be worried about is A is the motherboard standard and B can you get a backpanel and is the xbox interfaces in the right place to even mount a back panel.

and C why would you want to do something as bland as putting the xbox into a computer case? wouldn't it be cooler to make it into a toaster or something like that?

I knew someone that did this and put the xbox motherboard into an enermax black case, it was a mid tower. You might run into a few things that you may have to fabricate.

The easy thing to do is use the xbox powersupply and the xbox power cable that plugs into the wall. I wouldnt try and hook up the xbox using a computer power supply its too complicated and you can burn something up quickly.

What I would do is after you have taken the whole xbox board out of the xbox case and put it into the pc case, use the power cable that is used for the xbox and hook it into the slot, then route the power cable out the back of the case, you can cut a hole in one of the pci slot brackets to slide it through if you want.

For getting the xbox cd rom drive to open you will probably have to get a button for that at your local electronics store or radio shack. You can mount the cd rom drive button on a 5.25" drive bay or either a 3.5" drive bay.. Then you will have to solder the wires to the button and you might have to get some spair wire if the xbox wires are short which they will be..

These are the drive bays that I am talking about, I circled..

You should be able to use the computer case power button and reset button and solder it to the existing wires on the xbox for the power and reset.

For the controller wires you can route them through the front of a case drive bay if you want or maybe you want to put the xbox controller hookup onto a drive bay aswell its up to you... The harddrive should be able to fit in the pc case harddrive slot but you might have to get a longer ide cable I dont know..

Its fairly easy to do this, I havnt done it yet but a friend showed me a pic of his over the internet awhile back.
