Alright I tried using the search feature for this board to make sure there wasn't already an answer out there for this problem so if this is a repeat post if you would be so kind as to point me in the right direction I'll head right there.

I'm running Windows XP Pro, SP2, and recently my Norton Anti-virus started showing that I was infected with a "Downloader". The pop up only comes up when IE is used. This showed up after getting a "pop-up" window for some anti-virus protection scheme supposedly from Microsoft. NAV can't delete, clean or quarenteen this file either in normal windows operation nor in safe mode. Do you all have any ideas as to how to go about getting rid of this file or infection?

Download, install and run this

http://www.grc.com/s...heMessenger.htm

Please follow the procedures outlined here: Malware Removal Guide

You will need a PC which can connect to the internet

Run all the programmes as advised then post a current Hijack This Log in a new topic in the Malware Forum

For the purpose of accurate malware analysis, Hijack This Logs are only dealt with in the Malware Forum. Posting them anywhere else will result in a delayed response

If you are unable to run any of the programmes, please ask for advice in the Malware Forum
