my workplace tosses out its old towers when they upgrade, i grabbed a couple and tried putting a fresh harddrive in them. on boot i get an Pri HDD error and it doesnt do anything past that. the hard drives load on other comps just fine, i do know that much.

ive done a bit of googling on it, but couldnt fix it

which btw to, i cant get into the bios of the motherboard, i had the battery out and unplugged for a couple of days even and got a new battery but its password protected still...

Hi,

Sounds like the primary ide channel on the mobo is bad try connecting the hdd to the secondary.

Strange the bios is still password protected after the battery was out, the password must be part of the original code that was programed into the bios.

heh; i feel retarded. the cd drive was set to master, as was the hard drive...

disconnected d:\ (it seems the drive is faulty anyways) and didnt have any problems booting.

If pulling the battery doesn't fix that BIOS password issue, you can also swap the jumper for CMOS clear (depends on mobo) and remove the PSU hookup to the mb.

It is best if the cd drive and the hdd are on seperate ide channels, when they are they can both be set to master providing there are no other drives attached.

If one of the drives was bad though that was the problem.

hrdwrjnkie's idea seemed to do the trick. the bios wasnt allowing the cd drive to even load in the bios and it was giving me a few other errors that came after this post until i teaked the jumpers
