Which is better for all round usage? I currently have a Athlon 64 3800+ so is it worth going for windows XP X64 or should i stay with the good old 32 bit windows XP?

64-bit Windows is only available with XP Pro, plus all that functionality will be included in Vista as standard anyway.

Go 32-bit, it works fine with 64-bit processors. Quite a lot of hardware doesn't work on 64-bit Windows as there are no drivers for it.
