printer problems

when I try to print I keep getting the message could not print to dot4_001. Any idea on how to fix this. We hook the printer up to a laptop with a usb cable. And to the desktop with a regular printer cable. The printer is a hp laserjet 1200series

go to your control panel and click on printers and faxes .see if your hp 1200 has a check mark beside it if it doesnt then its not the default printer for your computer if you want to make it your default printer just right click on hp 1200 and click on make default
